An Extraordinary Return: A Voice from the Past Reviews "My Continuum"
I was incredibly moved this week to see a post from Adrian Mangiboyat Jr., a respected writer and editor I knew from my early days in the music scene. His impressive career has taken him from Pacific Business News in Honolulu to becoming the editor of Travel Journal International in Tokyo.
Based in Tokyo since 1991, Adrian now writes about family, travel, and the quiet intersections of love, music and memory. Seeing his thoughtful words on my new music, from someone with such a deep passion for both writing and music, was a powerful moment that brought my journey full circle.
A Review by Adrian Mangiboyat Jr.
The release of Kevin I.’s My Continuum is nothing short of extraordinary. To return to the studio nearly 40 years after stepping away from a successful music career proves that true artistry doesn’t fade—it matures, it deepens.
Forty years. A lot happens in four decades—new technologies, new governments, new fashions. But Kevin’s voice remains the same—perhaps even more resonant and moving now. It carries warmth, tenderness, and the kind of emotional honesty that only life can teach.
This five-song EP feels like a gift. Each track holds meaning and heart, together painting a portrait of Kevin’s life journey. For those who’ve followed him since the early days, My Continuum fills in the missing chapters with truth and grace. The songs touch on love, loss, regret, and reflection—universal emotions we all know too well. Listening feels intimate, as if he’s singing directly to you.
For me, the song that struck deepest is “Can’t Get Back the Time.” Its message of regret—and acceptance—hit me hard. At 69, I feel those lyrics in my bones. They remind me that time moves only forward, yet the moments that shaped us remain. If there’s one song everyone should listen to, it’s this one.
The production is beautifully balanced—never overdone, just right. Kevin’s voice stays front and center, supported by arrangements that let every nuance and emotion shine through. For longtime fans, hearing that familiar tone will bring a rush of memories. For new listeners, My Continuum is a perfect introduction to an artist who still sings with heart, purpose, and soul.
Kevin has said this EP is his thank-you—a way to close his solo chapter. If so, it’s a beautiful finale. But selfishly, I hope it’s not the last we hear from him. Because few artists can still move me like Kevin I. does. My Continuum reminds us that time may pass, but the power of real music—and real feeling—never fades.
I am truly humbled by Adrian's generous words. Thank you.
