The Magic of Three: Crafting the Vocal Harmonies for "Christmas In Our Hearts"
The Sound of Togetherness
Thank you all so much for the wonderful early reactions to "Christmas In Our Hearts." We're thrilled that it's finally out in the world!
When we were in the studio, we knew that the most important part of this song wasn't just the melody or the lyrics—it was the harmony. As I've mentioned before, harmony is the secret ingredient that gives holiday music its warmth and feeling of community. For this track, we wanted to capture that feeling perfectly.
The song is built around a rich, three-part harmony featuring myself, my longtime friend Rachel Gonzales, and my producer, Lance Jyo. This post is a little "deep dive" into how—and why—we brought those three voices together.
More Than Just Notes: The Story of Each Voice
A great harmony isn't just about singing the right notes; it's about the chemistry of the voices. Each person brought something unique to the track.
My Voice: As the lead vocal, my job was to lay the foundation and tell the core story of the song.
Rachel's Voice: Rachel Gonzales has been a friend for years, and her voice adds a beautiful, clear texture that brings a whole new layer of warmth and light to the harmonies.
Lance's Voice: This was special. For Lance Jyo, this song marks his own return to singing after focusing on production for several years. Having his voice in the mix, as both the producer and a co-writer, adds a personal touch that is truly the heart of the track.
The Magic of the "Three-Part Blend"
In the studio, our goal was to create a sound that felt like family. We didn't want the harmonies to sound slick or perfect, but warm and real. We worked on blending our three distinct vocal styles until they locked together in that special way.
If you listen closely to the chorus, you can hear that blend—a "heartfelt celebration of collaboration, friendship, and the enduring joy of Christmas," as Lance put it. It’s the sound of three friends, in a studio in Hawaii, coming together to share a message of hope.
That, to me, is the magic of harmony. It’s the sound of togetherness.
Listen to the Harmony
I invite you to listen to the song again, this time focusing on how the three voices weave together. It’s the part of the song I’m most proud of.
